Restoration of the side doors of the Novi Sad Cathedral completed

The expert service of the Provincial Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments has completed the work on the restoration of the doors of the Roman Catholic Church of the Name of Mary in Novi Sad, damaged due to the fire that occurred on January 8th of this year.

The reconstruction, for which Technical Protection Measures were issued by the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments of the City of Novi Sad, was carried out by the Sculpture, Woodcarving and Goldsmithing Department of the Provincial Institute in Petrovaradin.

The conservation and restoration works were led by sculptor-conservator Lazar Čurčić, and the expert team consisted of Dejan Radaković, carpenter-conservator, Goran Radaković, carpenter-conservator, and Zoran Barišić, painter-conservator.

The renovation included the replacement of two damaged boards in the area of ​​the folding molding, the replacement of a burnt board and two burnt parapet panels, the repainting of the interior, the creation of a new external folding molding, and the restoration of the original metal fittings.

After the side doors were restored and installed, the "Cathedral" was visited by the Director of the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments of the City of Novi Sad, Dalibor Rožić, the Director of the Provincial Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments of Petrovaradin, Vladimir Kubet, the parish priest of the Roman Catholic Church of the Name of Mary, Abbot Attila Želer, the Prime Minister of Vojvodina Maja Gojković, and the Mayor of Novi Sad, Žarko Mićin.
