Connecting century to century

Architect Slobodan Jovanović (1937-2011) was employed at the Provincial Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments from 1965 to 1977. years.

He was engaged in the study, practice and presentation of cultural and architectural heritage and contemporary architecture in Vojvodina.

He was the president of DaNS, and vice-president of the SDA of Yugoslavia, the Club of Architects and a member of the editorial board of the monthly magazine Arhitektura, president of the TNA Council, editor-in-chief of DaNS, member of the editorial board of the Encyclopedia of Novi Sad, associate of Matica Srpska, etc. He was an associate, co-author and author of numerous conservation and restoration projects, including: Detailed urban plan of the old center of Novi Sad, renovation of facades; Program and Preliminary Design for the development of the Petrovaradin Fortress; realization of the renovation of facades at Lisinska 1, in the suburbs of the fortress and the building of the "Đura Daničić" Department of the City Library, at Dunavska 1; Lapidary of the Museum of Srem and the "Lazar Vorkapić" Gallery in Sremska Mitrovica; rehabilitation of the house of Svetozar Marković; protection of presentations and revitalization of the Bođani monastery complex; restoration of part of the dormitories of the Rakovac monastery; landscaping and commemoration of the place of J.B. Tito's imprisonment next to the Belgrade Gate in the suburbs of the fortress; commemoration of the site of the former Armenian Church in Novi Sad; conservation conditions and management of the rehabilitation project at the facilities of the Synagogue, Platoneum, the Museum of Vojvodina in Novi Sad, as well as the Patriarchate and the center of the Sremski Karlovci, and much more.

He is also remembered as the author of numerous exhibitions and texts in professional journals dealing with architecture. In 2006, he was elected a member of the Academy of Architecture of Serbia, and in 2009, he became the winner of the Tabaković Award for Architecture of the Society of Architects of Novi Sad.
