Press release

Regarding the recent incident regarding the interpretation and presentation of the historical and cultural significance of the Peć Patriarchate, the Provincial Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments, Petrovaradin expresses serious concern and unequivocally condemns the actions of the Museum of Peć, an institution that has made public inaccurate and professionally unfounded allegations about the origin and significance of this cultural monument of exceptional importance for the Republic of Serbia.

As an institution whose primary mission is the preservation, protection and professional interpretation of cultural heritage, we believe that it is unacceptable to relativize or arbitrarily interpret historical facts, especially in a territory that has been marked by conflicts and different political aspirations for decades. Such actions create confusion and violate the integrity of cultural and spiritual heritage.

We call on the Museum of Peja, relevant institutions and individuals to be guided in their work by proven scientific knowledge, professional standards and a responsibility towards heritage that transcends local and daily political frameworks.

The Provincial Institute remains committed to preserving the authenticity, dignity and value of cultural heritage based on historical facts.
