Cultural property of great importance

The Serbian Orthodox Church in Ratkovo, dedicated to Saint Warrior George, was designated as an immovable cultural asset back in 1950 and categorized as a cultural monument of great importance.

This is a temple built in the second half of the 18th century, whose interior, namely the altar partition with a developed program, represents one of the last painting achievements of Jakov Orfelin, and the iconostasis with 38 icons was completed in 1972 in the manner of restrained Baroque, calm forms, soft drawings and Rococo-style illuminated colors.

The Laboratory for Testing Materials in Cultural Heritage, Department of Materials Engineering, Faculty of Technology in Novi Sad, carried out testing work on the church and in 2023 submitted a report to the Provincial Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments, Petrovaradin, after which the conclusion was reached that the restoration of the bell tower and facades was necessary, according to the established protocol.

In July 2024, conservation and restoration works began on the bell tower and facades, according to the conditions and with the expert conservation supervision of the Provincial Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments, Petrovaradin.
