Found in Novi Sad

The Provincial Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments, in the period from February 19, 2024 to March 6, 2024, carried out protective archaeological research in Novi Sad, west of the church gate of the Cathedral Church dedicated to St. George.

In the area where the research was carried out, more than twenty immovable objects were discovered and numerous movable finds were found in them, such as fragments of ceramic vessels, iron and bronze objects, animal bones, glass, etc.

Most of the objects found can be dated to the 18th and 19th centuries, based on the ceramic fragments found in them. The oldest immovable object from these excavations can be dated to the 13th century and is a pit.

As for the movable archaeological material, it is currently being processed and documented, which, among other things, involves joining together fragments of vessels found in the objects. The bowl in the photograph dates from the modern period.
