75th anniversary

On this day, January 9, 1951, our institution was officially founded under the name of the Institute for the Protection and Scientific Study of Cultural Monuments in Novi Sad.

The work on the protection of cultural monuments began several years earlier, when the Department for Protection was established at the Vojvodina Museum, which would soon, in early 1950, continue its work as the Institute for the Protection and Scientific Study of Cultural Monuments of the People's Republic of Serbia - Department for Vojvodina - Novi Sad. By a decision of the Executive Council of the National Assembly of the Vojvodina of October 4, 1960.

The Institute continued to operate as an independent institution under a new name, retained to this day - PROVINCIAL INSTITUTE FOR THE PROTECTION OF CULTURAL MONUMENTS, headquartered in Novi Sad. The stated activity was "recording of all cultural monuments in the APV area, their legal and physical protection, including conservation and restoration work."

Over the decades, generations of employees of the Provincial Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments have, working towards the goals set out in the founding act, created a variety of documentation on cultural assets, which numbers tens of thousands of archival units. The conservation and restoration work carried out on works of art and architectural objects in the country and abroad exceeds several hundred.

Publishing thematic monographs and professional publications, as well as exhibition activities, are always high on the list of priority tasks.

The Provincial Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments will mark its 75th anniversary with a series of meaningful program activities. On this occasion, we invite you to follow us on social networks and find out information about upcoming events.
