Celebrating Victory Day over Fascism
The monument is designed in monumental dimensions and consists of: a stepped pedestal made by stacking steps of Niš sandstone, an obelisk carrying a sculpture - a female figurine, and bronze plaques. The obelisk itself, 8.24m high, has reliefs measuring 125x80cm on all four sides, cast in bronze, depicting the struggle of our people against the occupiers. The figurative sculpture of a woman with raised arms and a torch in her hand symbolically announces the arrival of freedom. The total area of the memorial is 82.17 m², and the monument reaches a height of 13 m. Citizens also participated in its construction, through their voluntary work. The Provincial Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments has developed a project for the rehabilitation and restoration of the Monument to the Victims of Fascism in Srbobran, based on which conservation works were carried out in 2021 and 2022. On this occasion, all damage was repaired and the stone slabs of the obelisk were cleaned. The figurative sculpture (4m high) and the relief slabs were dismantled, conservation and restoration works were carried out on them, the stepped pedestal was repaired and a new substructure was built that supports the sculpture.
