ON THE BANK OF THE DANUBE – A MEDIEVAL SETTLEMENT

Archaeologists from the Provincial Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments, Petrovaradin, conducted archaeological excavations at the Stražilovo Brickworks site, with the aim of researching and documenting archaeological finds in the area planned for the expansion of clay excavation. On the banks of the Danube, on a flat plateau, the peripheral parts of a settlement from the late Middle Ages were explored, the central part of which is located outside our research area.

The excavations, which lasted about a month, revealed several archaeological sites, such as circular pits and trenches, in which, in addition to fragments of late medieval ceramics - parts of ceramic pipes, fragments of bricks and animal bones - a large number of metal finds were also found, such as leaf-shaped arrowheads and parts of knives.
