Church of St. Dimitrija in Dalj, which dates back to the late 18th century. It stood intact until World War II, when it suffered the most extensive damage. One of the main topics of discussion, when it comes to the Dalj church, is the problem of the authenticity of the arrangement of icons on the iconostasis. Interpreting and defining the original position of the icons is made difficult by the loss of the original wooden structure in a fire during the war.
The icons, whose author is Pavel Đurković, were taken into the restoration process in the late 1970s. century. Then the Croatian Restoration Institute in Osijek began conservation and restoration work on the two most endangered icons: the icon of St. Raphael and the throne icon of the Virgin Mary. The Provincial Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments in Petrovaradin began its first works in 1995. year, on the icon of St. John the Baptist.
So far, six throne icons, the Last Supper, as well as the imperial and side doors have been restored, completing the first zone of the iconostasis. Icon of St. Trojica, where the conservation and restoration process was carried out in 2023. will occupy a central place on this iconostasis.
