Visit to the Orahovica Monastery

One of the most important Serbian Orthodox shrines is the Orahovica Monastery with a church dedicated to St. Nicholas. The monastery dates back to the 16th century and is located in Slavonia, on the slopes of the Papuk and Krndije mountains, nestled deep in the forest. Acting Director of the Provincial Institute, Dr. Vladimir Kubet, visited the team of conservators in Pakrac and the works taking place within the project of Conservation and Restoration of the Collection of Icons and Iconostasis of the Diocese of Pakrac-Slavonia of the Serbian Orthodox Church. On this occasion, he also visited the Orahovica Monastery, where he became acquainted with this exceptional architectural complex and preserved paintings, and also met and exchanged experiences with colleagues from the Croatian Restoration Institute, who are working on the restoration of the dome of the monastery church. The Provincial Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments began the implementation of this project in 2023, together with the administration of the Diocese of Pakrac and Slavonia.
