Restoration of the door of the Roman Catholic Church of the Name of Mary in Novi Sad

The Provincial Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments, Petrovaradin, has taken over the door from the side wall of the Novi Sad Cathedral in order to undertake conservation and restoration work on its repair.

Namely, the side door of the Roman Catholic Church of the Name of Mary on Freedom Square in Novi Sad, on the wall facing the Catholic Gate, burned down due to a fire that occurred on January 8, 2026. years.

This church, known among the people of Novi Sad as the "Cathedral", was built between 1893 and 1895, in the neo-Gothic style, according to the design of Georg Molnar, and is part of the spatial cultural and historical entity "Old Town of Novi Sad", designated as an immovable cultural property in 2008. years.

In order for the reconstruction to be completed as soon as possible, the works will be carried out in the workshop of the Sculpture, Woodcarving and Gilding Department of the Provincial Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments, which has all the modern technology necessary for carrying out the process, which will enable the expert service with the project manager Lazar Čurčić, a sculptor-conservator, to immediately begin the restoration. The restoration will be carried out on the basis of the Technical Protection Measures developed by the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments of the City of Novi Sad.
