Sacrificial plaster in Bođani

During May 2025, as part of the long-term care of the Provincial Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments for the Bođani Monastery, work was carried out to remove the restoration plaster from the socle zone.

Restoration or sacrificial mortar, in this case a mixture of lime and coarse aggregate obtained by grinding slag, is applied to wall surfaces for the purpose of moisture restoration. The sacrificial mortar absorbs/takes up moisture and salts from the walls and after a certain time, the mortar is removed.

The plaster was carefully removed mechanically from the parapet surfaces at a height of about 1.50 m and from the columns supporting the dome. Also, the subsequent plaster from the altar window was removed. The unstable edges of the paintings were covered with lime plaster, and the air pockets were injected with icy TB1.

After a period of airing the bricks, decorative lime plaster is applied.
