Railway station in Sombor

The Sombor railway station complex is an important example of industrial architecture from the second half of the 19th and early 20th centuries.

Built in 1870/71 as part of Sombor's first large city park, this railway junction is very significant for the city's urban and industrial history.

It consists of the main railway station building, a boiler room, a depot, an administration building, a water tower and ancillary buildings. Architecturally, the buildings combine elements of industrial architecture and traditional construction techniques, with the dominant use of brick.

The park layout in front of the train station further emphasizes the importance of this space for the urban culture of Sombor.

Although partially devastated, the complex has retained its historical significance and functional value, which is why the Provincial Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments has begun drafting a Proposal for the designation of the railway station and park complex in Sombor as an immovable cultural asset.
