Our conservators are back on Mount Athos

In the period from May 8 to June 10, 2025, an expert team from the Provincial Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments was in Hilandar, working on the conservation and restoration of the Throne of the Virgin Mary from Milutin's narthex.

On this occasion, work was carried out on the conservation and restoration of the supports of the woodcut decoration, the removal of surface impurities from the gilded woodcut and from the painted layer of the lower part of the canopy, and the creation of missing parts of the woodcut.

Carpentry work has also been carried out to close the open part between the throne of the Cathedral of the Archangel Michael and the throne of the Apostles Peter and Paul.
