Middle Ages

Today, the regular Autumn meeting of the Medieval Section was held in Bač, organized by the Serbian Archaeological Society and with the Provincial Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments as host and co-organizer. The meeting was opened with welcoming speeches by Ivana Grujić - President of the Section, Lela Milinović - President of the Municipality of Bač and Ivana Pašić - Head of the Archaeological Department of the Provincial Institute.

The meeting featured presentations on early medieval settlements on the territory of Serbia, new discoveries on the coastal ramparts of the Belgrade Fortress, archaeological research on the Church of Saints Constantine and Helena and the Kruševac town, the medieval town of Miliševac, the Bečej Fortress, and the reconstruction of medieval armor and swords for the permanent exhibition of the Historical Museum of Serbia. Colleagues from our Institute, Jelena Filipović and Rastko Vlajković - architect-conservators, Ivana Pašić - archaeologist-conservator, and Dejan Radovanović - retired art historian, informed the attendees about the Institute's activities on the conservation and restoration of the Vrdnik Castle and the fortress in Bač, the protective archaeological excavations in Mokrin and Kikinda, and the discovery and conservation of medieval paintings in the Franciscan monastery in Bač.

Among the speakers were archaeologists from the universities of Vienna and Belgrade, the Museum of Herzegovina, the Intermunicipal Institute in Subotica, the Archaeological Institute and other reputable institutions dealing with archaeology.
