International conference “Modernism in Bačka” at the Subotica City Museum

And the participation of our colleagues, art historians

An international conference dedicated to modernism in the art, architecture and culture of Bačka was held yesterday, organized by the Subotica City Museum and the István Týr Museum from Baja, within the framework of the Interreg VI-A IPA Hungary-Serbia cross-border program and the project "Modernism in Bačka - Timsum2".

The full-day program brought together numerous art historians, curators, researchers, and professors from Serbia and Hungary, who, through an interdisciplinary approach, shed light on various aspects of modernist creativity in this region, from the beginning of the 20th century to contemporary interpretations.

Dr. Bogdan Janjušević and Mihajlo Plankoš, art historians at the Provincial Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments Petrovaradin, spoke about architecture at the turn of the century in Bačka, as a harbinger of modernist tendencies.

In parallel with the lectures, a thematic exhibition "József Pehan, Painter of Modernism" was opened in the Museum premises, dedicated to one of the key representatives of modernist painting in Bačka. The conference and exhibition are an important cultural event for this region due to the fact that they brought together experts, artists and the public in a common goal - the preservation, study and presentation of the rich heritage of modernism.
