Consecration in Sremska Kamenica

Representatives of the staff of the Provincial Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments, Petrovaradin, together with the acting director, Dr. Vladimir Kubet, attended the consecration of the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the first Serbian school in Vojvodina, in Sremska Kamenica today.

Since its establishment, the Institute has been concerned about its well-being and today it is engaged in professional conservation and restoration work on the interior and exterior. During the great flood of 1965, workers of the Provincial Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments entered the church in boats and rescued the submerged icons from the iconostasis plinth, the doors, the icons from the thrones and archival material...

And today, the facade has been renovated in the spirit of the time of its creation, the roof, windows and carpentry have been restored, the interior of the church has been cleaned for conservation purposes, the altar partition, the dome inside and the soleils, moisture has been eliminated, the frescoes have been reconstructed, the altar area has been decorated and the icons refreshed, the ground floor has been decorated, the portico has been greened, and new church lighting has been installed.
