In Sremski Karlovci, the renovation of the facade of the Patriarchal Palace has been completed, a monumental work by architect Vladimir Nikoli\u0107 built in the period 1892 – 1895, which, along with the Cathedral Church, dominates the central city square. During the four years of renovation of nearly 5,000 square meters of richly decorated facades, the work was carried out by numerous sculptors, facade designers, masons and carpenters. Thousands of pieces of decorative plaster elements were restored or cast, complete carpentry, the rustic plaster cladding of the base was completely replaced, the natural stone cladding of the base was restored and partially replaced. Stone staircases, access ramps and lion sculptures were restored. The dedicated work of all participants completed the renovation of the palace complex and the Cathedral Church, which began in 2020. The works were financed from the budget of the AP Vojvodina, the clients of the works were the Provincial Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments Petrovaradin (eastern facade 2022 – 2024) and the Municipality of Sremski Karlovci (western, northern and southern facade, 2020 – 2022). The works were carried out by KOTO d.o.o. and ALP Engineering d.o.o. from Belgrade.<\/p>\n\n

The building is basically in the shape of the Cyrillic letter “\u0428”. It is divided into three floors (basement, ground floor and first floor) which end with a powerful roof cornice finished with an attic consisting of a balustrade with columns on which stand urns made of artificial stone. The horizontal division is emphasized by cordon and attic cornices, and the vertical division by risalits and pilasters on the first floor, which end with Ionic capitals.<\/p>\n\n

The facade features a vertical gradation of finishes, from a massive stone plinth, imitation of rustic ashlar blocks, blocks of cut stone with deep joints at ground floor level, and smooth surfaces with shallow joints, broken up by pilasters, aedicules, balustrades, and floral decorations at floor level.<\/p>\n\n
